Most wood dye products are compatible with water based sealers. I used a product called Transtint. It’s one of my favorite dye products. I’ve used a Keda Wood Dye product in the past but the Transtint is still my favorite. For this project, I mixed about 15 drops of wood dye in with about one cup of polyurethane.I use Transtints quite a bit. There are at least three ways to use them. First, cut with distilled water, and use as a water dye on raw wood. Raise the grain first, and sand back out by hand. This is less work than you think.
