I'm only going to do the engine we're not taking the tranny out of the Softail I just want to make sure that there wasn't something special about the Softail engine Evo engine did it needed to be in a Softail frame or not because I figure to Evo engine is Evo engine and I can just swap the engines out. You used to be able to get rebuilt Evo's from HD for around $2500 exchange w/warranty, don't know if you still can.1. Find a good running motor trans and primary. (The whole motor) 2. I had to cut down the rear motor mounts by 1/8"each. Or if you have the ones from the 96" bike swap them. Fronts worked with no mods. 3. Swap plugs on the stator and transmission. From 96 to 88. Typically the "A" motors make a few more ponies, but the difference is very minimal. Also another difference is the a's are rubber mounted to help with vibes.
