The best part of the game, the time when you will have the most fun is right at the start. If you set rates too high you will zoom past the best part of the game. That said, there is no joy in a 5 hour single player tame. For XP and harvesting stay at 3 or below, and for taming try 5. You can tweak it as time goes on.

In local single player the server stops when you exit the game, but the private server will continue running, so you will have problems with things like food spoiling or babies dying.Apparently, in single player some server commands are not allowed.
